JLPT N5 kanji collection for beginners

When you start learning Japanese, it is the best to study to most frequent characters obviously. The JLPT ( Japanese Language Proficiency Test ) is a 5 level examination system. N1 means the most difficult one and N5 is the easiest. The entry level exam requires you to know approximately 100 kanjis. I have collected them for you and made it available in the following article. Feel free to use and share it!

The most frequent kanjis are fairly easy to master, they usually consist of only a few strokes and have a simple structure. If you go to Japan or China, you will see these everyday and it is advised to know them well. Since my list only contains 103 characters you will not need more than a couple of days to learn them. In addition to the characters I have included the meanings and the readings as well. Please note that in Japanese one character usually has more readings (they are called Onyomi and Kunyomi). So in this sense my list is not complete, but it provides a good way to start learning.

I would recommend you to print out the list, try to memorize them, and there is a link below, which if you follow you can practice them on my site for free. I hope it will help you a bit and you can gain some momentum to study. Let me know if you have any question related to the kanijis.

Katakana or hiragana readings and meanings also included in the list. If you feel like you still need to practice the hiragana or the katakana alphabet, you can do so by clicking on them.
